As CEO of go zero, I’ve had a front-row seat to one of the biggest shifts in modern mobility.
September 2025 set a new record for battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations in the UK. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), 72,779 new BEVs were registered last month alone, which is a 29.1% year-on-year increase, making it the highest ever monthly volume.
That is not just a milestone. It is a call to action for everyone building the infrastructure that supports this transition.
EVs are no longer niche – they are essential
When electrified vehicles now make up more than one in five new car registrations, it is clear that EV drivers are not a small minority. They include families, professionals and business travellers. They are guests staying at hotels, visitors to attractions, and holidaymakers who expect to plug in as easily as they connect to Wi-Fi.
For hotels, resorts and leisure destinations, the message is clear. Guests increasingly expect charging facilities as standard. Those who provide them early will gain a competitive edge.
Closing the gap – Go Zero and Rolec leading the way
Demand for EV charging is growing faster than infrastructure can keep up. That is why Go Zero’s recent partnership with Rolec and the £100 million debt financing facility we have secured are so significant.
Together, we are unlocking scalable destination charging for hotels, parks and leisure venues without the need for upfront capital investment.
Go Zero’s sector expertise, proprietary charging platform and hospitality focus are complemented by Rolec’s UK-manufactured hardware, nationwide installer network and proven technology. The result is fast, reliable and guest-friendly EV hubs designed for real-world operation and long-term growth.
Why it matters for businesses and communities
New revenue and better guest experience: EV charging creates additional income streams while improving guest satisfaction.
Longer stays, higher spend: Guests are more likely to spend on-site while their vehicle charges.
Stronger sustainability credentials: Charging supports ESG goals and enhances brand reputation.
Future readiness: Installing now means being prepared for the inevitable rise in EV demand.
The time to act is now
Nearly 73,000 new BEVs were registered in a single month. The shift is happening faster than many anticipated.
Go Zero believes the future of hospitality will be powered by accessible, reliable and guest-focused charging. With our £100M funding and partnership with Rolec, we are accelerating the rollout of charging hubs across the UK’s hotels, resorts, and leisure destinations.
If you are operating within the hospitality industry and want to understand how EV charging can strengthen your business and attract new guests, I would be happy to start that conversation. Our electric future is already here!
